The Isthmus of Auckland, with it's extinct volcanoes, 1859
Artwork by Ferdinand von Hochsetter & A Welker
Undulating shades of orange and pink describe the volcanic terrain of Tāmaki Makaurau showing scoria and cones, basaltic lava streams, and areas of clay and sandstone. Initially drawn in 1859 and in german, this map is one of many that depicted Aotearoa's geography for a European market.
